"If you can't beat them, arrange to have them beaten"

Last weekend the local race scene offered a double header.  Round 5 of the CCCX series stopped at Toro Park on Saturday.  Temperatures were in the mid 80's and the course offered plenty of climbing and technical descending every lap.  I rocked my trusty RockLobster single speed to the first win of the season; that bike is fast!  CCCX post race write-up here.

This year, Candlestick Park was the first venue for the Bay Area Super Prestige series.  Similar to Toro Park, temps were in the 80's which lead to dry and dusty racing.  From the gun Scott took the holeshot and never looked back.  5 minutes in, I attacked from the group and rode in no-man's land for the remainder of the race.  Scott and I finished 1-2, setting us up well going into the BASP series overall while Alex Work put in a solid ride despite being sick.  Write-up found here; note the sweet aerial footage from the GoPro cam.

Next up, Surf City Cyclocross at Aptos High!

Grip it and rip it!

Cross season is in full swing and I find myself often racing two events a weekend.  To be honest, I feel I was off to a slow start to the season though my legs are starting to come around.   Two weeks ago, Mallory, Scott and I traveled to LA for Spooky Cross.  Both Scott and I were hoping to break the top ten but it wasn't meant to be.  We did however manage to get all over the Internet due to our mad fly-over skills on the course.  Grip it and rip it!

To compliment my geared bike, Paul at Rock Lobster built me an identical scandium singlespeed cross frame. The geometry is the same though the second bike is equipped with Ahren's sliding dropouts.  Like my first bike, there is an gold theme found throughout the bike and complete weighs in a 17 even.

For sometime now, I have been sitting on a late 90's ZIPP wheelset.  The rear freehub was in bad shape so they have see little use over the last couple years.  Thankfully Paul Components makes a bolt on flip-flop hub drilled 24 hole.  This wheelset will double as race wheels once I get out on the velodrome.
